Hitting a ball out of bounds is an inevitable part of the game of golf. Depending on the course, it might be possible to retrieve a ball hit out of bounds to recoup the investment. It is common for courses with real estate developments surrounding the fairways and greens to post “No Trespassing” signs, prohibiting the search for a ball on the homeowner’s property. Amateurs will usually take a drop inside the out of bounds line while attempting not to place the ball any closer to the hole. Checking scorecards and the tee box, however, may uncover a drop zone intended for specific out of bounds situations. This practice is more common around water hazards, but occasionally takes effect at common points of out of bounds.
